On July 3, 2016, John William Hoekman, a former senior vice president of investments for Wells Fargo Advisors in the Greater New York area, was permanently barred from the securities brokerage industry following allegations that he participated in undisclosed and unauthorized outside business activities and private securities transactions. According to statements published by securities regulators, Hoekman fraudulently induced a customer to loan money to a third party in connection with an overseas securities transaction, and made material misrepresentations to two other customers in connection with the sale of securities. In 2015, Mr. Hoekman was the subject of two customer complaints involving allegations that he sold unsuitable investments to customers. Settlements were reached in both cases.
